The Silkscreen Process
Silkscreen or screen printing as it’s commonly called, is the process of reproducing a design by forcing ink thru a stencil image that has been burned into a mesh screen. Using a blade called a squeegee; the ink is pushed thru the screened image and transferred to a substrate such as a t-shirt. Credit is generally given to the artist Andy Warol for popularizing screen printing as an artistic technique in the United States in the 1960’s.
